I loved every moment of hosting and pairing these boutique wines for the launch of talented Georgie's Forgotten Delights Supperclub!
️I selected artisan, organic, boutique wines from the wonderful Mary at Wine At Home who support small growers.
Starter ~ Ham & Cheese Pâté with gherkins paired with Gruner Veltliner, Kamptal DAC 2020 Gruner is a wonderful Austrian grape that marries so well with food. This particular bottle is made by award winning 6th generation family producers Waldschütz, all the grapes are hand harvested at optimal ripeness from the steep slopes of Kamptal. This gives them fabulous concentrated fruit flavours of peaches, grapefruit, citrus and white pepper. It’s a full bodied wine to stand up to the full flavours of the Pâté and it’s famous refreshing high acidity cuts through the fattiness of the dish and cleanses the palate It was a real hit with our guests!
Main ~ Braised Beef Stew paired with gold trophy award winning organic Malbec Reservado 2019, Fabre Montmayou. Check out the live pairing presentation on my homepage of this website for reasons behind this match . This wine isn’t highly acclaimed by MWs Tim Atkins & Janice Robinson for no reason! Made from 65 year old vines, it’s fruit forward with silky soft tannins and has both complexity and elegance… ️
Dessert ~ Chocolate Refrigerator Cake paired with organic Muscat de Frontignan AOC, Chateau de Peyssonnie. As my students learn on my WSET wine courses, sweetness in food can harm our wine, that’s why we have dessert wines. This one is particularly special. Boutique, small production, all grapes are hand picked (100% Muscat à Petits Grains) from different plots and fermented at cool temperatures to retain the aromatic, floral expression of orange blossom, rose and pears 15.5% alcohol and sweet but not lusciously so, refined, elegant and good acidity for balance… the perfect ‘finale’
What a magical evening it was, mouthwatering home cooking paired with organic exquisite wines and truly wonderful guests… I think the pics speak for themselves!
Big shout out to Henry & Alex for the photography and the team at the iconic Terry's Cafe London.
Santé my friends!
